A focused conversation with a PDF

Choose one text-based PDF of up to 4 MB and 80 pages. FrontierTools extracts readable text in your browser for the page view, then uploads the PDF privately to Cloudflare AI Search for indexing. This is an extracted-text view, not a reproduction of the original page layout.

Ask a specific question or use a suggested prompt. Answers stream into the conversation. References point to retrieved passages supplied for that answer. A reference shows a page when its text can be uniquely matched; otherwise it opens the source excerpt without inventing a page number.

What reaches the AI service

The PDF is uploaded through the authenticated backend to private Cloudflare AI Search storage. Hybrid retrieval combines semantic and keyword search, restricted to your document. Retrieved passages, your question, and a limited recent conversation go to the AI answer provider.

Your uploaded files remain in Your PDFs until you delete them, with a limit of three files per account. Refreshing clears the conversation, but you can reopen or delete an uploaded PDF. Avoid uploading information you are not comfortable sharing with these providers.

Know the limits of document answers

Only selected passages are supplied for each answer. Summaries can omit other pages, and relevant details may be missed. Page references help you review the source; they do not guarantee that an answer is correct.

Scanned or image-only PDFs need OCR first. Password-protected PDFs are not supported. The text limit is 300,000 characters per document. Tables, formulas, columns, and unusual fonts may extract imperfectly.

Start with a useful question

Ask about a topic, term, or detail from the document. Follow-up questions can use the recent conversation as context, while answers should remain grounded in the supplied document passages.

Questions support up to 2,000 characters. Each chat supports 20 completed answers, subject to the shared AI request limits. Start a new chat to keep working with the same PDF.

Common questions about chat pdf

Can I chat with a scanned PDF?

Not directly. Convert the scan into a searchable PDF with OCR first. FrontierTools will explain if it cannot find readable text.

Is the whole file uploaded?

Yes. The PDF is uploaded privately to Cloudflare for indexing and search. Only retrieved passages and recent conversation go to the answer model. You can delete uploaded PDFs from Your PDFs.

Does every answer cover every page?

No. Answers use selected passages, so broad summaries can be incomplete. Review source passages and ask targeted follow-up questions.

Can I save my document or chat?

Your PDFs retains up to three uploaded documents until you delete them. The conversation is kept in page memory and clears on refresh. You can copy completed answers.
